Next build under way

This one is a Look Mi80

Here's my main component choices:

So I have several themes going on here; Coolwall!!! I voted Shimano and Campy cool, cos they are

Now there is no doubt that Hyperglide is great, so I have Campy Mirox laced to M730/M732

In order to shift I was gonna use thumbies but I've run out of my stash of MT63/M733 levers...

So another blinding potentially controversial idea dawned upon me; why not use STI?

I have no STI bikes since taking my Univega to bits...

So I'm refinishing some MT63 and have XT shifter pods, these will be de-decal-ed and I'll maybe cover up the 'Deore XT' on the pods...

Here's a look at a mockup:

Re-fin work, Gloss for blades, matt for body/mount

And some more Campy:

Would be a shame to sully such a great looking euro-bike with Shi*mano.

Either way It's a booty!

Like it - we don't mix up enough manufacturers components on here BITD my bikes were a real mash up - my next one is going to be a proper mix too.

Hyperglide - best shifting. Campy chainset - class. Campy mechs - solid stuff. STI - why not!

Look forward to the finished bike :D

Cheers! Should be fun. I'm predicting it's all going to work together really well...

On the STI front, I have choices, I got the refurbed, destickered STM092s sorted, but I also have a set of STM095 like you have on your Raleigh - yes I clicked through ALL of your builds, amazing, simply gorgeous bikes

Anyway... 095 is a lot lighter and does a better job than 092 - but 092 looks really nice... Hmmm nothing's ever easy!

Thanks :D I think the chunkiness of the 092 will suit the campag stuff :D

What brakes are those?

If you can keep a secret, I'll tell you

They are Altus!!!

I noticed they are EXACTLY the same as Deore LX, except for the cable pinch bolts are regular bolts, rather than dome head allen screws

So I painted them gloss black... They may well not make it to the finished bike

But I like the lack of branding... wouldn't want to paint over any LX or XT

I'm thinking I may not be able to avoid using XT on quality/equipment snobbery grounds - I see they can be had in black with a big old shimano decal on each one

I know Mavic would seem to make sense, French Connection and all that

Someone even stuff stuck a Mavic decal on the NDS chainstay at somepoint

But that's gone now. Definitely rolling on Campy!

And if it's Shimano cogs, then it's Shimano shifting, if it's STI then it's Shimano levers...

I know, I'm going to Hell

But at least I'll be able to change gear smoothly on the way, although I gather it's mainly downhill...

This is what I expected, a bit of Coolwall style stuff 8)

Thanks for the positive comments thus far chaps!

In between trying to sell stuff and actually ending up buying more! I have made some small progress

I've done numerous touch ups on the frame... Mounted my levers:

Image

And confused myself with tyres I though all black tyres looked pretty good, but then I stuck this wheelset on while I worked on cleaning/truing the XT/Campy ones and these tyres look damn good on there

Image

I decided not to use the Alivio brakes! Tried some black LX brakes and matching blocks, but they are not quite classy enough and a little modern/spindly looking.

I've decided to use black XT brakes, same vintage as the levers

I logo'ed up my cranks as well, logos are twice the size of the originals, I've also fitted them the other way up to how they are actually factory printed, seemed to make more sense to me that the logo be readable in an arm up position...

Image

Cranks are covered in finger prints and decals not smoothed out in the pic

I was chuffed enough I got them on straight!

Love the winged QR Campy 'shield' logo, they don't make enough use of it on the modern kit, which is a shame

Look with 'Shampagnolo' (aren't I ironic) Groupset is all done

XT hubs/cassette/shifters
LX cantis and pads (matched the skeletal hangers that I found)
Campy Centaur chainset/front mech
Campy Euclid rear mech
Campy Mirox rims

Been ridden two days now, shifts awesomely even when hammering, handling is very nimble a lot steadier than my Saracen, top tube is 1/2 an inch longer, makes helluva difference

I love it

Some Pixes:

Change of location - Almost got run over by this lot:

Here's the best of 'em:

A couple random people actually said 'nice bike' and they weren't astride Retros themselves :D
