Old school kit and designs that still cut it

A lot of the kit from "back in the day" although exquisite in appearance has been long superceded. That said some stuff was deisnged right and can still cut it against newer stuff. Here is my list -

Chris King headset
Syncros seatposts
M900 XTR mechs and cantis
Royce bottom brackets

So, what does everyone else still rate ?

Agree with the Royce.
Creak as well today as they did then!

Flite Saddles - a revelation then, still suit my (fatter) arse now
Suspension Forks.. Just not elastomer :shock:

Boulder Bike frames.
They seem to have gotten the design right the first time (91?), while other brands have changed their design trying to get better, Boulder has always used a simple single pivot design.

Have a look at the following, first from 1991 then the second is one of their current models (though it's either built up with retro parts, or an older photo), still very much the same design.

I got my first Boulder in'92 (Intrepid, XC-Pro and Marzocchi XC 400), and now have a Ti Starship, still the best short travel bike Iâ€™ve ridden (OK Iâ€™m biased).

Love those caramba DB's

Gotta put in my .02 for Caramba's Double Barrel cranks.

Super stiff, groovy looks and 10 years of hammering without a peep.

Caramba...nice.

Vaguely reminiscent of the Aende 'L-shaped' road cranks. But that's another story.

Could probably add XTR M900 seatpost to my list. Beautiful bit of kit.
