Should be fine.
I have used my std cassette tool for centre locks with no problems.
Just make sure the splines engage correctly and fully.

my old shimano lockring tool was no where near long enough or with a big enough internals to be able to get it to fit over the axle.
so bought an icetools one with centre pin so as not to screw things up
