Hi all,

Ive got a 2007 Rocky Mountain Blizzard with Rock Shox Recon 2008 Forks I'm building up.

What size disc should I go for, I will be using the latest Shimano XT disc brake levers/calipers.

Seems the obvious sizes are 160mm or 180mm.

Type of riding is x-country nothing too mega but I don't wont to think if i get the 160mm that i should of got the 180mm.

Many Thx

I would say go for the 180s as your brake should have enough modulation to control them if they are a little too much.

I run 183 on the back and a 203 on the front and they are fine.

Depends on your braking style....

Personally run 180 front 160 rear most of the time.

But would run 180 rear for longer descents.

203's!

but no seriously either would suit you fine
i normally run 203's which give awesome bite for locking up the wheels
currently running 160's and they aint all that bad, slightly harder to lock the wheels
for what your doing will be fine though
but id still go 180

Wow, hold yer horses.

I have a 2009 Rocky Mountain Vertex. Came fitted with Formula Oro K24 brakes with 160mm rotors front & back. I am over 16st and they provide more than enough braking power.

180/160 again here.

160/160 were just fine too but I canged to 180 up front so I can swap wheels between bikes as one would only fit right at 180mm.

I have 622mm on my road bike, the pads grab just below the tyre bead. They stop me just fine at 40mph.
