Shimano's great because it works and always has. Can't think of many times the big S has let me down. Microsoft's ok but is no where near as reliable.

Sram suck b*lls (except for the tasty cassette I've got :oops: ). I would never have their kit (except the cassette :oops: ) on any of my bikes. Just does not feel as good or work as well as Shimano imo.
 
When Shimano get it right looks wise they get it very right. M739, M950 etc. I've got a set of M960 V brakes and they are absolutely beautiful. Also they work damn well. M950 brake levers are the best ever and all I have on my bikes.

Never used SRAM's mechs, but that's true of Avid disc brakes vs. Shimano disc brakes in my experience. Shimano's are much easier to set up and work on as well.

Then high-end Rock Shox are very good. Swings and roundabouts.
