Can you be Alu and retro

Aluminium was discovered in the 1820s wasn't it? And the bicycle was invented somewhere round the midle of the same century? Given that the discovery of the metal pre-dates the invention of the bike by a couple of decades how would an aluminium bike not be retro?
The only reason that the first bikes weren't aluminium is that it was so expensive and precious. BITD, like 1850 BITD, aluminium was considered a precious metal, royalty would have aluminium cutlery sets and it would be proper expensive.
