90's Kona Question

As it's Kona week here on RB, I'd like to know...

Will a 94 era Kiluea/ Explosif be happy running a modern 80mm SID?

Will it pitch it up and look like a bike running a daft large fork and spoil everything?

What were those Marzocchi's they ran that year? 80mm?

Thanks for any info...

i believe they were built for 60mm.

80mm with a decent amoutn of sag will be A-OK

In 94 the Marzocchi forks were XC500s and XCRs. Both have 51mm of travel according to their manuals, but no axle to crown measurement is quoted.

I can measure one up for you...

The geometry was tweaked slighly in either 96 or 97 so an 80mm SID could be on the long side for a 94 frame.

Thanks pal...yes please.

overall height being more relevant taht trave anyway really i suppose.

Anyone know what width XTR m952 axel i'd need? Have a spare 112.5mm - praying it wouldn't be a 116mm.

If costs appear in this build, it'll have to be terminated.

If you are happy to wait until tomorrow I'll measure one up, and compare to a SID too.

112.5mm should work too, although new multisized band front derailleurs (low clamp, top swing) can be borderline on the granny adjustment.

yeah, thanks that'd be very helpful.

My SID's are 440mm from centre of dropout to top of crown.

They are however 10mm shorter than a Float, so there may be hope.

:D

My XCR's are 410mm axle to crown (top).

Not sure of the year, but these are them.....
