Kona frame numbers

Can anyone help? What do the frame numbers on the bottom bracket mean?
Is there a website somewhere which explains?

I;ve wondered about this. The only reasoning I am aware of is Kus have KU in the serieal number and Hots from 91-95 have TET in there because they were made by Tom Teesdale. The others eem a bit random.

After 1997 distribution moved to Palipgap, so they don't know anything about earlier Konas, I've asked!

I asked Bez at Konaretro.com and he came back pretty quickly!
I was concerned that my Kilauea was a dud Fire Mountain. It has had a professional respray but the code on the bb began with an F and there was no Tange Prestige Concept decal anywhere. Bez said that the ovalised and externally butted tube at the bb end is a sure sign of Tange Prestige Concept and that the code is pretty much meaningless, so now I know I have the real deal!

Hi,DONT PANIC.....my 1992 Cinder Cone frame number also starts with an F.
It still has its original paint and decal set.
