Hi,

Does anyone have a good method for restoring leather toe straps? Mine look OK but are very dry.

Cheers in advance,

Dave

Bear in mind it is chrome leather.
Not much help, but years ago I used to put our rabbiit away at night in the garage. On one occasion he got out of the hutch, and nipped off all the toe straps (6 bikes) at the buckle. Some teeth.

Thanks Keith,

i will bear that in mind, but take solace from the fact that the chemicals used in the manufacture of Chrome Leather are extremely toxic if ingested

I used to paint the outside mine with gloss paint every so often then rub some boot wax into the inside of the strap. I still have couple that date to abot 1981

You can soak them in water to make them soft, dry them out flat to restore the shape and rub plenty of oil or beeswax into them to make them supple again. Brooks Proofide would be ideal.
