ebay and bidders list

Retro Guru
is it the policy of ebay to replace the names of bidder with Bidder 1, 2 ,3 ...etc or is it the choice of the seller?

suprisingly won a laptop the other night when the top bidder was removed a few hours before the auction end and I was the second highest bidder,

thinking I was not going to win the laptop I was negotiating on another laptop and nearly ended up with two,

Yes you can choose to hid your 'e-bay' name. Which i don't think is right and is not on

when auction values exceed £100, ebay automagically hides bidder names

this is to help prevent fake second chance offers.

Yeah but surely it encourages 'getting your mates' to bid the other guy up.

I didn't bid on an item once as the seller was (for instance) Akelly99 and the first bidder was Skelly01 (andy and sally kelly, who knows??).

This kind of thing makes ebay less transparent, and therefore less likely to get peoples business.

Rant over, I'm going back to my box. ;)
