Rocky mountain Vertex 70 2004. New tweeks Page 2.

Re-finished

Only thing I may change now is the rear cassette. I've transferred all the red bits onto my other RM and fitted a carbon bar which has enough width to accomodate the dual control shifter/brakes, and is more comfy.
I really need to get my hands on some decent scales to weigh it, ;) just out of curiousity.
Finished(yeah right) spec.

Not sure if i'm going forwards or backwards with this  :D
TB P2's
Handbuilt 650B front wheel with tri compound Racing Ralph
Control Tech stem with carbon front plates
Carbon LP seatpost
Answer carbon bars
Sram Stylo 2x9 drivetrain with xtr 960 mechs

Could do with a lighter wheel and tyre for the rear, but currently i'm loving it

They are irc mythos i think.
They were available cheap somewhere not so long ago, if you look closely every other bike on the forum has them :D
I changed to black wall as i decided 2004 was a bit too new for skinwalls ;)

Still a great looking bike.

I like the black tyres, just not sure I like the look of the front Racing Ralph.

.

99% of the reason for buying the Ralph was because every other 650b tyre i could find was £40+ and the Ralph was £23.50 :D
Also pretty light, could do with a rear to match though, anybody? :D

Apart from the I beam saddle falling off on the first ride - I liked mine so much that I'm already planning to rebuild with disc brakes to make it my main XC machine.

Mine is same year & paint job, but yours looks like it has rack mounts on the seat stays? Will get some pics up soon.

.

Big old bump for my 'bestest bike' :D
Having ridden her for the past 3 days on the trot i can say that i'm glad that CRC cocked up and sent me a 650B rim instead of a 29er :D
I'm sure with a 29" on the front she would have been a chopper ;)

I've been tinkering with the old faithful over the winter.
Dragged her out into the spring sunshine for a couple of pics
Bars are really comfy, slightly shorter stem is maybe needed i'll decide after i've been for a ride longer than round the block

Nice bike, but I'm surprised if the 650b wheel doesn't slow down the steering a lot more than I would like. Or does the sweep in those funny-looking bars compensate?

But anyway, what about the basics? You haven't told us what the frame weighs, how long the top tube is c-c, or what its serial number is!
