Yeti ProFRO Disc retrofit project (building)

why don't you just buy a modern bike

There aren't that many good rigid (as in, not designed for a sus fork) modern frames around these days.

Well then is done. Frame and fork is now in the good hands of Mr. Johnsen.

Again, had this been a original Yeti (pre ProFRO) like a FRO or a Yak with a original Yeti fork (not the Answer Accu-Trax) I would never even thought about getting rid of the cantilever mounts etc. for a disc retro fit.

Stay tunde - this will be a Hot-(off)rod

:D

I think you should do as you please, take something old and classic, and give it a modern twist, improvements such as disc brakes can be exactly that, improvements. My guess is that this will be a Yeti for riding, and if the controls on it are modern, so what, its still the frame thats the basis for the ride.

It might not be what everyone would do but its your bike!

The Norwegian oil fund is now so great that every citizens (remember, in Norway we have only one state oil company - Statoil) owns his/her share of the oil and gas on the Norwegian continental shelf. It means that I have shares in U.S. $ 541,423,999,864, - (increases with U.S. $ 977, - every second). This means that we can spare one or another Yeti frame. This is not "frame-serious" as we say here in Norway while we laugh on the way to the bank.

Parts:

Regarding wheels, I have a set of 28h FIR Polar deep V mtb rims i threaded to a pair of Rotaz hubs by WheelSmidt spokes. They sure look cool, but I have my doughs about the Rotaz freehub (plastic parts inside free hub). The original plan is to go with the DT/Hügi disck hubs, Revolution spokes and Syncross wheels as seen on the first image in thread.
