Newly Built ALAN

I saw this frame a while back on ebay and just had to have it. It's a work of art if you ask me.

Have gone for a modern but retro sympathetic build. Aiming to have retro looks but modern ish components so i could have easy replacement and things like brifters etc.

I think it turned out pretty good:

Took it for it's first proper ride today and am pleased with it.

It goes well and is pretty comfortable, also it fits me slightly better than my other bike.

Considering I just roughly set it up in my living room it will need very few adjustments, little bit of tweaking and we'll be there.

Super looking machine - well done on the build and the choice of components suits it very well.

Looks great, I like it.

There's a couple of things I've noticed though (not detrimental!) - it seems to have a 'one piece' headtube, more like a Duralinox frame. All Alans I've seen before have (I think) lugs at top and bottom. Is this a design feature on later models? Forks also look like a 'unicrown' style rather than an aluminium 'separate fork crown' design.

Still looks a nice bike whatever!

From what I have been able to work out ned the forks were changed at some point because the older style ones broke at the top.

I had noticed the headtube was different to others, it is lugged though, it's just that the tube joining them is the same diameter as the outside of the lugs.

Probably both features you noticed are because its quite a late one, it was made December 1994

Well, you learn something every day! I'll have to have a closer look next time I see a later model.

May I ask, how do you find those tyres; any good?

Ally, the tyres (as you probably know) are panaracer pasela

They certainly look the part and seem pretty good on the road.

I have however only used them so far for a little more than 20 miles so couldn't give you a particularly in depth opinion.
