I hope I can acheive the sentiment in the title...having been a bit daft with bikes last year, and with my ever non-decisive nature.

Building a bike to just ride anywhere, and just leave alone has proved difficult.

So I have jumped off the Retro ( ish ) bandwagon and gone all Ti.

Meet the Hummer, hopefully my bike for life.

Just need to decide on build now.

Got some choices of parts, with the leftovers being stuck on the Wifes or flogged tp finally empty the garage.

Will be looking for some sound recommendations and advice on choices, though will be looking to use what I have.

I am the wrong side of 40, currently 15st ( looking to reduce to at least 13st ) not as fit as I could be, and looking to ride the bike on most things the UK can throw at us ( I hope ), with the exception of DH.

Frame is a 2009 ( ? ) 17.5

Forks choice

XC700sl Bombers C 2007
Nixon Platinum It C2005
RS Psylo SL u-turn C2003 ( TF tuned )

Though I am very tempted to swap/buy some 454 Pikes

Headset

Hope
FSA Orbit Extreme

Wheels

WTB laserdisc trail on DT 370
XM719 on Hope ProII

Both 36h and built with similar type spoke and nipples.

Brakes
Hope Monos with Floating Rotors 180/160
M756 XT 180/160
Hayes 9 Carbon 180/160 ( older but good stoppers )

Seatpost/stem/bars

Thomson Elite/X4/CNT Monkeylite
FSA SLK/FSA OS115/FSA OS190XC

BB
Hope
Raceface

Tyres
Maxxis Advantage
Continental Mountain King
Schwable Smart Sams

Will be using Sram X0/X9 for transmission and Raceface Dues C/set
Saddle with either be a Gobi Trailwing or a Yutaak

Your experience of the durabilty, real world performance of any of this kit would be approciated.

I intend to actually go out and punish this bike, rather than building stuff I barely ride at the time.

Your help/advice/comments etc will be greatly appreciated as always.

Regards Keith

thats the build i would do

very nice frame there!

i would go with shimano brakes-always working, spareparts available everywhere.

i`m a FOX man,but would choose the rockshox out of those..

DT hubs are great, but the 370 is no where near the 240s(which is the best buy-fit and forget, worth every dime).

looking forward to see the build!

Very nice

I'd go for the pikes as well, seen one of these built up with a set and it looked spot on :D

Air Pikes would be a good match. What about Syncros or Race Face finishing kit to keep the Canadian connection?

Thanks for the comments and suggestions gents.

I am trying to use what I have available at the moment, so have started the build as per the follwing pics.

Went with the wheelset with Hope hubs due to their adaptability, as I would like to put a 20mm axle fork on at some time.

Though will use ( up ) the Nixon for now...its done very few miles, works properly so I might as well wear it out before replacing her.

Only thing I have treated myself too is some X0 shifters and a r/mech along with some Jagwire cables with gold endcaps to continue the theme.

covehummer2011_0217_094958.jpg

Not sure whether to use a X9 or XTR f/mech as yet.

Sort of wish I had gone for a 2x10 set up though TBH...so may well flog the XO and Dues XC. And get a Pike 20mm once the Nixon goes pop I suspect.

Pedals are older XTR XC SPDs at present, but if I can find the cash I may splash out on some new m985 ones..or maybe the 647s as a cheaper option.

Although I haven't weighed her, she feels pretty lightweight and I expect a sub 25lb build.

Though would be cheaper to just loose a few lbs ( stone!!! ) myself....

Finished, and in more ways than one. Ah well....looks nice anyhow.

A sudden and dramatic change in circumstances means some hasty selling of stuff..inc this..

I shall be sharing the wifes P7 for the foreseeable......
