Mine definitely has the same forks as the 1990 smokey Ascent.
Based on that I think I'm going to go with 1990 for the date.
I'll start a proper build thread about it with some photos when I get round to building it up.
In the meantime...

My Axis look like an Ascent 1991, but it's not exactly the same, my painting is the same color but it has black lines, and the frame has no nuts to secure a luggage rack.

I think that's a 91. I seem to recall they were available in other countries, in different colours. I'm sure I've seen an Axis with these colours, before. The decals look to be 91.the ripper":nax1ufpx said:
My 91 Apex has the same paint job your Axis has. I also have a 91 Axis in the brochure colours (black, but with a white spangly lines on, rather than the tiger stripe), which has the same tubing decals as yours.
