Yeti ProFRO Disc retrofit project (building)

I vote no.
But then again, I have no vote!

That workshop is awesome. I just hope the end product is worth destroying a classic!

Hi Thanks for the support!

The operation is going to be performed by class A bikesmith Truls Johnsen here in Norway http://www.johnsenframeworks.com/

Looks like its in good hands, some cool projects on his blog

Hi drcarlos, thanks for your suggestion, but that wil def. never fit due to the angles and the frames geometry in general was ment for the Accu-Trax only.

(and by the way - not all rides need a sofa cushion in front)

You do what you want to, its your bike and your project. Hats off for going in your own direstion.

Looking forward to updates.

If I were you, I didn' t touch the frame. Use some magyra if you really want an hydraulic touch.
I really prefer that you built an screw an adaptator like did Merlin a few time ago. I'm sure there's many solution without welding.
But for the front, if you really want disc, why not a special pro-stop Accutrax?

24pouces, tahnks for our thoughts. Magura - I guess you are thinking about the old rim brake system(?). Well I had them on a couple of bikes. I did not get a hang for them, they are ugly as hell, and I get more stopping power from a pair of BR-M737 than from the Magura.

The Maguras don't give the bike any touch of hydraulic magic. The Magura brakes was a mishap in the evolution in bicycle component design. But hey its made so no others don't need to get in to that pit hole again ;)

For the Accu-Trax ProStop - its like the wholly grail - lots of us have heard and read about it but never get a hold of it. And the caliper mount I guess does not fit todays standards.

This project is like taking a T-Ford and turning it into a hotrod (well I agree the link between a T-Ford and a Yeti ProFRO is some unfair ... to the Yeti)

I think it's just wrong, if the frame was knackered and needed loads of work I could understand it but the frame looks to be in really good condition. I believe DrS disc Yo needed other work doing to it, whilst I don't really agree with what he did it does look good but the Yeti is older than the Yo and I don't think you would be adding anything to it.

If you want a bike that stops (ie disc brakes) why don't you just buy a modern bike with decent bikes and leave the classic bike alone.

Just my thoughts, it's yours and you can do what you want with it... at least you are starting with a decent frame and not something cheap and crap to start with
