Stems, stems and more stems

Off topic in some respects,

But I was talking to a gentleman in his bike shop while on holiday a few weeks back and he has started mounting some of his vintage group setups (think 20s road racing onwards).

The way he's done it you can play with all the shifting setups and change gears while rotating the cranks, and its great fun.

I've also seen an airlines setup like this and thought it could be something you could pursue with some of the older parts you have.

 I like the early Ross Schafer stuff but (and please forgive my ignorance) the Dirt drop stems and the early Salsa stems are clamp on, but surely the Aheadset had not been invented then, or am I missing something.

Indeed missing something you are ...

Salsa, Ibis, WTB ...

they all made this kind of stems in the mid 80's

you can see how it works on my pics of a 1987 WTB catalogue

;)

Really like that WTB one!

Missing a couple of Machine Techs and maybe a GT Flip Flop II for novelty value?!

Jeff, that's really helpful. I bought a Specialized Ti stem from ebay recently and wondered how do i know it's the real deal. It looks identical to yours but without the sticker. Great for identification.
