Bought one the other day, first things first, get everything out and have a look.. looks nice, leave feedback for the seller ..

LAter... take a peek at the online pic and the package seems to be missing one of the wavy copper spring/washer things that are supposed to sit either side of the central circlip on the axle..

The question is. . . . is it absolutely necessary to have them?
I have messaged the seller but he hasn't replied yet..

Lastly (for now), what is the likelihood of being able to buy such a thing from a hardware store or suchlike?

If it is the type like I have yes you need the washer for compression, you might be lucky and find one in a hardwear store, or more likely a specialist bolt company store......

But that is just the start....... They have a reputation for being a complete ba**ard to fit and in my experience it is well deserved :(

I have bought 2 in the past...both only had one compression washer.

Shell width, chainline is a pain to calcute without the instructions , which incedently neither came with.

The first I got in satisfactorily in the end, and it performed well..prompting me to buy the second. This was a bitch to fit...was always really tight..in the end I managed to fugger the bearings a little due to its fitting/removal etc.

Its still in a bag tossed into the back of the garage,....

I have instructions (found in a thread on here - good old RB  ) and some hints/tips that may prolong the time 'til it's filed under junk

Is compression washer the correct name for the thing?

.

I had one, fitted ok after a bit of fiddling.
I see no reason why you could put a reasonably thick rubber o ring on the spindle to take up the compression?

Would there be the risk of the rubber perishing relatively quickly?

Some Googling reveals that they are called Wave Spring Washers...

Since I don't have any vernier calipers, would anyone know the diameter of the axle?
