Just went to shove a tange headset onto a 1982 531 Raleigh. Its all wrong. The fixed cups push in just a touch to easily- by hand and a tap with a screwdriver handle! Dropping the bottom race onto the fork it rattles. Maybe a mil or less slack but it spins freely. This needs to work so at the moment coke can shims are out and surely there are headset out there. Needed to be cheap as the whole idea is to build the bike from spares in stock in the shed.
So just what size might I need?
Is British stuff a touch bigger/ Had similar problem with a pre war HS on a modern fork but I didn't expect that to solve easily so went to coke can.
