Old School Grand Master
Some of you have noticed there's changes afoot at the chris667 camp.

I'm moving, because in October I want to finish my degree full time. The OU is great, but it will take forever, and as there's no work I fancy I'm going to study full-time. My dad's going to look after Lucky.

I've been careful with my UCAS choices to make sure they're all near a navigable river. I can find somewhere to moor anywhere in the country, more or less, but it can be a very insecure life. If there wasn't a mooring anywhere local, I'd be "bridge hopping", which is grand but can involve a lot of travel.

Then again, I could also move into halls, and sell Malliard of Joy. I'd more or less break even on her. I'd meet lots of people, and probably have a nice time. But would it do my head in living with students for the next three years after living with no-one but my dog for the last five?

Financially, owning my boat and renting a room are about the same. Boat may be a teensy bit cheaper, but there's not much in it.

What do you think?

Keep the boat and your independence.

I think you'd regret selling her, and come to resent your decision to return to studying for changing your lifestyle.

Keep the boat.

Stay away from the students as much as poss.

I'd love to live on a boat  lucky man

Wish I lived on a boat when I was a student... would of made the Pirate parties much more realistic!

Seriously though, keep the boat it should give you your own space when you need it. And its an asset you could use later on in life after uni.

if you keep your boat you'll still be meeting loads of new people and socialising with them, just sleeping in a different place to them, that's all. No bad thing  Just think no fire alarms going off every night :D

i was wondering about age too. i think at 31 it would do my head in living with a bunch of 18 year olds. i'm sure there are benefits but i'd definately trade that for the quiet life. but thats just me.

i say keep the boat.
