I'd be tempted to do Harddrive recovery. Just to see what was on it before

I'd be inclined not to recover it - you never know who owned it and why they are dumping a fully functioning computer! :shock:

I always format the HDD or replace it - you never know whats on it...

These PC's are usually so bogged down with programs on start-up that parents think they're fooked and Tarquin needs a new PC. They chuck the old one away and LGF sneaks it off with a snigger and a titter (both illegal in 4 countries).

Just been looking at a Dell Dimension 8400 that belongs to a friend of my boss. Its apparantly really slow to start up and run stuff. Never seen so many processes listed in the msconfig startup section. Three sets of printer software (only one printer installed), 3 anti-virus/anti-spyware programs, 3 mobile phone software suite, iTunes etc etc etc. Can't think why that 512MB of memory gets gobbled so quickly....
