24 hour race

Completed my first 24 hour race this weekend with some friends on a 4 man team. We were one of six teams from our LBS. We placed 28 out of 173 4 man teams, and the next best from the shop was 41, so we were pretty stoked with the result. It rained literally non-stop the 2 days before dumping 12 cm of rain, so the 15 km course was wet and muddy, and it parts extremely-have-to-walk-muddy because it was like glue on the tyres. All in all though a great experience, loads of fun and a great atmosphere with 1001 participants. Only foundone picture to share so far. I did 6 laps (we did 27 in all including the start lap) so had to go through this "puddle" 6 times. It was pretty cold during the night laps. :x Can't see the bike, but I went with the SS and a rigid fork...problem free bike for those riding conditions, and it just kept going without a hitch :D

It was called Nordic 24. A yearly event for the past decade here, arranged by one of the local clubs.

We did two laps at night so we could sleep a bit longer when not riding, so after the first cold shower you knew you had another after 18 more km of riding in the dark... Crazy....

Just for interest sake, the top team did 36 laps, the fastest lap was just over 37 minutes  , the top solo rider completed 24 laps  , and some cool woman from Sweden biked 500km on a SS with a bike trailer carrying 40kg of gear to compete, placed third in women's solo, and then biked back home

This is a front view of "the puddle." The rider going in was one of my team mates.

Nice one,I'm doing my first 24 hour race at the weekend and am taking a rigid ss incase of mud, aswell as a host of other bikes,of course :D

Thank you all! :D I would recommend it to anyone. It's a larf if you have good mates on your team...or in your camp as we did. MJN, good idea to bring the SS to keep it simple mechanically. When you're cold and possibly wet you don't want to fiddle with bike stuff. I was supposed to bring my Explosif as well, but after the 2 day downpour I said screw it, threw the ti fork on the King Kahuna and left it at that. ;)

I know this thread is a little old now, but it took an eternity to get the pics from marathon-photo. So, thought I would throw a few more up.
