Has anyone experienced the sidewalls of the tyres chaffing off the rim? Damage is apparent on all tyres and on both sides next to the rim, tyre pressures are correct and never low. They are road wheels/tyres bontys fitted to a trek. Any ideas?

Posting for a colleague, initial thought was brake rub but not on all 4 sidewalls. :?

It does sound like the top of the pad is touching the the sidewall somewhere in its arc :?
If the brakes are all set up the same them that could account for it

could the pivot bolt be loose? :?

Is it just above the bead? Some ultralight tyres omit the chafing strip around the bead. The chafing strip does what is says on the packet.

It's normally more commonly seen on tandems, where some thin-walled brands were notorious for cutting through on the side.

Cheers guys, the bikes a fairly entry level trek with bonty tyres and bonty rims, more and more it would suggest brake setup. Either that or Ill telll him hes too fat :D
