Tom Waits

Can never decide between Rain Dogs and Swordfishtrombones, though Bone Machine runs them close too.

If you're following The Wire on Beeb2, the theme tune, 'Way Down in the Hole' is from Frank's Wild Years. The version in the show is by The Blind Boys of Alabama, but Tom's version is used in series 2

Aha!! I'm enjoying the wire tremendously........was going to track down all the different versions- didn't know that it was written by Waits hisself.
Cheers!

the wire's been the best thing on the box for ages, watched all the box sets, recommended  didn't know it was Tom Waits though

I'm rather partial to 'Blue Valentine', though it can be rather depressing if you're not in the right frame of mind!

Been listening to Mule Variations and Heartattack and Vine a lot recently. Great stuff.

There are some funny interviews with Tom from around the HA&V time on youtube...
