Scott Strike FX 2002

Well its certainly not retro, so Ill ask here.

Ive inherited a Scott Strike FX full sus frame from 2002, that has knackered pivot bearings. The spacers that should go in the frame before the bearings are also missing. Ive managed to track down and buy replacement bearings, but on speaking to the local Scott dealer, he tells me there should be spacers on each side, and the only way he can supply them is by selling me the full bearing kit, which has the axle, shims, bearings spacers and all the bolts. At £45! for two spacers. So i thought if i could find out the exact size of the spacers I could get a replacement from a hardware place or smiddy. But I cant find specifications for them anywhere.

So does anyone out there know what size they are? width and inner diameter? even better, does anyone have a spare set? what would happen if i fitted the bearings with no spacers?

i know its a bit of a long shot, but i hope someone can help, itd be great to get on with the barrell scraping build!

id get that kit off himif i were you as the chances of getting another must be pretty low....ps dont fit without the spacers...youll break it .....i think the hassle of trying to find the exact size you need is not worth the trouble....after all the bike was free.

It was free youre right, i suppose i should explain that im heading off round the world later this year so every penny is being saved, but the frame was too good to say no to, and I dont want to have to leave it in its box for 2 years, but equally, im going to have to source disc compatible rear wheel, shifters, brakes etc etc.... so if i can avoid spending the £45 on the spacers, I would be a happy man.

I really wouldnt be asking, if i was willing to pay for all those extra bits that I don't need.
A spacer is a peice of metal, which is a certain shape. Surely an exact copy of the original could be made or found? As far as i can tell, despite modern bike technology being pretty exclusive, this is one part that could be bodged a little. Sure it could break down, but im willing to give it a try, and then maybe spend some cash if it goes wrong.

It would be great if anyone can advise on the solution to my original question. Apologies for not being wealthy

I asked for the dimensions for the part directly from Scott, who pointed me back to the dealer, and after measuring the frame up, provided me with 2 spacers which are the perfect fit - for nowt! Very nice chap

Just incase there are hordes of other folk who need spacers for just this job, the dimensions you would need to get some of your own would be:

width of bearings plus spacers - 9mm (this is measured on the frame)
Width of spacers I got - 3mm
width of my bearings - 5mm ( i know this adds up to 8, but can be clamped in place by the shims
External Diameter of spacers - 26mm
Internal Diameter of Spacers - 21mm

These are a specialist part built for the job, but you could easily get them by providing a hardware company with these measurements. Saved myself £45!
