My cheap Audiophile stereo

My little budget stereo system. After spending a lot on my bikes I had to get a stereo system(while I had some money left). so I picked up some components along the way. Tell me what you think. I am pushing 150 WPC and 250 on thew sub woofer. Check the components. it is a cheap Audiophile setup. It is all mostly hooked up with Monster cable minus the EQ. The speakers are hooked up with I think 6gage wire. Sounds supurb for a 300 dollar budget with sub.

It's a mix of almost everything ;) But if it does the job you want it to do, why worry.

But I like the pre-amp. :D

loving those speakers, they could only have been sold in america. not sure i approve of the equaliser tho, im a minimalist when it comes to hifi.
thing is, when the last record shops have closed the you can only buy music as an mp3, wont hifi just be dead in the water? who wants to hear every single undistorted bit of digital compression?

I am trying to find some Pioneer M90 and C90 pre and amps. I Have a whole load of these components. I will be upgrading to B&W Bi amp towers then I will be using twin amps.

I only use the EQ at Low volumes. When I run it twords My full volume I run it CD>Pre amp>Amp> Speakers. That's Why I did not get good cable for the EQ. I have that same Peeve.

That because on retro bike You build the bikes to match or just anyway you feel. I Picked up whatever I knew would sound good. I don't really care about things matching for now. I will pick up All McIntosh This fall. Then Everything will be.

I wish it was though. But, Not all matched systems have all the right components to make your system stand out with near perfect sound.

Anyone have anything like this on here? I know some of you like to have some tunes while you work on bikes.

Those speakers will be very efficient, my bet 91~93 dB written somewhere on those - that pre-amp is interesting too.

Those sort of speakers appeared in the mid 70's when everything went a bit mad - stateside houses needed big amplification/ speakers due to their design (wood wood wood) whereas our little UK homes didnt need anything near as large.

The hifi brigade are looking back to these nutty multi driver designs becuase their efficiency works well with valve (tube) amplifiers, I've not long sold my Pioneers similar to these.

BTW - 150w per channel and those speakers will mean you'll need barely 5 ~ 7 watts to make your ears bleed, its just that the power amps power supply can back it up whereas an amplifier of just 5 ~ 7 watts would sound 'weedy' in comparison.

And answering your question - some of the systems I had for a while when I worked for some top UK manufacturers:

Speakers:

Wilson Audio Watt/ Puppies :http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/wilson_wp8/

Power amps:

Krell FPB350M X2 http://www.hifi-notes.com/krellmonauralamps-nl.htm

CD transport:

TAG McLaren Audio DVD32R: http://www.iaguk.com/tag/dvd32r_tech.htm

DAC/ Processor :

TAG McLaren AV192R

Surround speakers:

Mission 753: http://www.hifiengine.com/manuals/mission/753.shtml

Surround amp:

TAG McLaren 100x5R: http://www.iaguk.com/tag/100x5R_reviews.htm

Not including cables, display or centre speaker, that system retailed at about £75,000 in 2003.

These are the JBL 4333B studio moniters I had for a while (£4000 in 1979), my boss gave me these  . I refoamed the 15" drivers:

My current system is much more humble:

TAG McLaren AV32R processor prototype

Mission 753 speakers

Bose surrounds

Cambridge Audio P50 power amp

Rat sound 150w disco amp

I run just 4 channels now, dont need/ use a centre.

See this site for Hifi madness - My JVC ML-10/ PL-10 (£1600 each in 1980) is in here somewhere.... (I do wish I'd never sold them but it paid for the kitchen...)
