A nice delicate set of verniers, perfect for banging things in with, prising the lids off paint pots and stirring the paint with.

A precision adjustable spanner you mean. An old mate of mine (who was not to particular about measuring or clearances) used to describe micrometers as 'precision' g-cramps' :)
