after 6 and a bit years working in the cycle dept got completely pee'd off with that, so now work with car parts! so nice when people listen to your advice 
cheap parts? not a bit of it! 15% off inflated retail price! although do do a ctw scheme and get 15% off a bike extra....

I worked in the bike dept. I just used to tell people if they want a proper bike, properly built and serviced to a good standard, go to a proper bike shop!
I also refused to sell some bikes, as they were not fit for purpose!
The manager loved me! Didn't last long, as i said.

no need to be ashamed .
my local halfords is better than the bike shop . they have all sorts of nuts and bolts and if you know what you are looking for it is ok .
I prefer decathlon but it is a bit further .

GF's nephew had a bike for Christmas one year, the bearings fell out the back wheel, the bike was a £79 special.
Halfords refused repair as 'he's been off road - its not suitable for that'.
I pointed out the huge advert for said bike behind the salesman, said bike was 'off-road' and about 2 foot in the air.
Bike was fixed.
