As above. Any ideas please.Using Northwave lycra at the moment but at 71 starting to feel a bit like it might be time for a change.Still slim and fit but beggining to look a bit dog eared and bent.Bound to happen and it aint going to get any better.Any advice appreciated

Re:

Hi Peter,

If you are looking for a Base Layer and feel comfortable wearing non-bike specific longs, then I would try Mountain Warehouse Talus Isotherm.

https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/talus ... spx/black/

Another alternative is M&S Cotton, Polyester and Viscose.

Or, slightly more expensive Wool, Polyester, Viscose and Polyamide.

BTW, I'm 60 and have bought all of the above and wear them over Cycling Shorts. I just wear the Wool content when the temperature drops below a certain threshold!

Re:

Hi.
Thanks for the replies but its not really a base layer that I am seeking. It is something less clingy than lycra.Having said that I may well buy one or two of the base layers for underneath whatever I finally get as a top layer. Not sure how I would get on with merino wool as ordinary wool makes me itch something rotten. Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated

Re:

Try googling 'tapered tracksuit bottoms'. Not as tight as Lycra but no need for cycle clips either. Is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

Re:

Thanks for that. Will have a look.Just trying to find something a bit more in keeping. If I cant then its sod it. I will just have to grow old disgracefully. The thing about lycra is that it dries out quickly after rain. Will have a look at the tapered trackies. Going to town on wednesday so will have a wander around some of the sports shops. TLhanks again for all the ideas

Re:

The ones for serious football training, athletics training, etc., like some of the Nike ones, will dry quickly enough; the fleecy ones, seemingly designed for standing in alleyways while smoking joints, probably won't - although they seem very popular for said purpose. :D

What he said^^^^^
Ronhill tracksters, i used a pair for a couple of years as a student. I think they still do multiple weights as well. My dad, also 71, still rides in them.
I know they used to do a standard (keep the breeze off, not much use below 5 degrees) and a semi fleecy one (ok down to 0 or below, take a bit longer to dry if they get wet). From a quick look at the website they appear to do several models with different descriptions, so you might be able to find something at a stockists buy having an old fashion feel of the goods......

On a similarly vintage note, Rohans aren't a bad choice for touring. You get different weights, dry fairly quickly and look relatively normal off the bike. I used to use them for all of my riding in the 90s. Nowadays, it's Aldi cycling bottoms or jeans.
