'Death by dangerous cycling' law considered

Department for Transport figures for 2016 show that 448 pedestrians were killed on Britain's roads, but only three cases involved bicycles.
By contrast, Cycling UK said that 99.4% of deaths on the road in the last ten years involved a motor vehicle.

Regrettably, the BBC have adopted the popularist position (or their news editor doesn't like bikes) and taken against cyclists by mis-reporting the case leading to the discussion as if it was 'fact'.

Charlie Alliston was jailed for 18 months for the death of his wife, Kim Briggs, last year.
Alliston was riding a fixed gear bike with no front brakes when he hit the 44-year-old mother-of-two as she crossed a road in east London in February 2016.

No, she walked out in front of a bike; which was travelling towards a green light, at a lesser speed than a car would have been doing. She was not "crossing the road", but walked out in front of a bike doing 18mph approximately 6-6.5M on her right.

Yes, said cyclist (as has been discussed ad infinitum) was riding a technically illegal bike - but would not an anti-jaywalking law be as much of a valid consideration as this one? It would surely save more lives, after all....

sssshh... they havent thought of that yet

i still believe that all the publicity and other events are leading towards some sort of tax for cyclists. If you follow history then the measures introduced into cities to promote cycling can only lead to a charge once enough people are converted.

This is the tories pandering to certain selfish older generations who think roads are for motorists and who are jealous that cyclists have an untaxed mode of transport requiring no expensive fuel and which can be even faster than driving when the roads are gridlocked. These are the same ignorant, selfish ****s who are ruining Britain in any other ways.
