An Old Romantic or Two?

Happy extra day off to you all. I was out early again with the hounds this morning to avoid the heat of the day. I've walked the particular woods we went to for the best part of twenty years, nodding to familiar trees without really taking a very close look at them. Today i varied my route slightly which caused me to closely pass this grand old specimen.




I stopped to consider it properly noticing the carved letters, love hearts and a significant year. What was their story? Out here in rural Gloucestershire, deep in the woodland in the latter days of the war..... I wondered what their lives were from that day. Did they live long and happy ones? Together? Apart? Are they still living them?
