Hi all - i have a Kia Ceed 2007 with an immobiliser issue.
long story short - i dont want to spend loads of money trying to find out what the problem is/how to fix it so could i ask the Kia garage it is currently sat in to have the immobliser de-activated or removed form the car?
anyone done this before? is there a way i can do it myself?
is the immobiliser part of the ECU on these cars?
so many questions....i just cant be doing with spending loads of money on this car if i can just bypass the problem part itself, but if its part of the ECU what the eff am i going to do.... :-/

well good god, theres loads of issues! Why did I start reading into this??

the module itself could be a bit grumpy

the coil could be to blame

the chip in the key itself could be to blame

good luck!

AS per Kia owners manual. Not sure if its the same for 2003.

Limp home (override) procedure
When you turn the ignition key to the
ON position, if the IMMO indicator
remains on continuously after blinking
6 times, the transponder installed
in the ignition key is out of order. You
cannot start the engine without using
the limp home procedure. To start the
engine, you have to input your password
using the ignition switch.
The following procedure shows how
to input a sample password of “2345.”
1. Turn the ignition key to the ON
position. The IMMO indicator will
blink 6 times and remain on indicating
the beginning of the limp
home procedure.
2. Turn the ignition key to the ACC
position.
3. To enter the first digit (in this example
“2”), turn the ignition key to the
ON and ACC position twice.Wait 3
seconds but not more than 10 seconds,
and perform the same procedure
for the next digits (for
example, for “3”, turn the ignition to
ON and ACC 3 times).
4. If all of the digits have been input
successfully, you have to start the
engine within 10 seconds. If you
attempt to start the engine after 10
seconds, the engine will not start
and you will have to input your
password again.
After performing the limp home procedure,
you hahave to see an authorized
Kia dealer immediately to
inspect and repair your ignition key or
immobilizer system.

Re:

I've had it to the local Kia garage and they've checked the wiring of the immobiliser, the coil and key - all fine.
It starts intermittently so I'm putting it down to the immobiliser unit itself being at fault. Although I'm not sure what's causing it to be at fault. I have a guy looking into getting a run file for the ECU that basically bypasses(ignores) the immobiliser.
The Kia garage wanted to take the dash completely off and possibly replace the immobiliser unit itself....
