So it's coming to that time of year again when we make our NYR's wether we keep to them is a different matter. So whats yours here's a few of mine :

Stop smoking. (Most important)

Ride more (time and commitments allowing) ;)

Get fitter (Set up turbo trainer and use it)

Stop buying bikes and bits (probably the hardest of all)

- finish all my current builds before I start another one

- ride more! (won't be hard, I haven't been on a bike for months!)

- do at least an hour of exercise a day (or 7 hours a week). This will be the hardest of all, too many other things (work and family) getting in the way

Re:

Stop smoking. (Most important)

Have you tried vaping? I was quite a heavy smoker and I started using an e-cigarette a couple of years ago and it works for me. One thing I will say, is don't bother with the cheap things that look like a cigarette, or the pen things, they probably won't satisfy you and you will go back to cigarettes. Invest in a half decent battery and tank and then try some different PG/VG blends and different flavours until you find something that works for you. Higher PG gives more "throat hit", great if you like quite harsh tobacco, I prefer a higher VG blend, typically 70% VG, 30% PG, which is smoother

A good starting set-up:

I buy my liquids here: https://www.vapemate.co.uk/getting-started.html

Best of luck.

Vaping was very much in its infancy when I finally decided to quit, so much so that you could only buy them from market stalls. I knew what was in a Marlboro Red but didn't trust the vapes to be any less deadly. I used inhalators, the plastic tampon lookalike thingies, to help me quit.

I did of course have the added motivation of having a really big scare where my GP "forgot" to tell me he was sending me to see a guy who happened to be a lung (and lung cancer) specialist as well as the standard tests after some bloody phlegm. Turned out to be a great tactic as shitting myself proved to be a much stronger motivation than saving a few quid!

The guy was also a cyclist which helped the case for stopping... He was sprinting up hills I was getting off and walking.

Good luck with quitting, I hope its easy in the end!

Edited to add my resolutions as I got interrupted by the Missus and hit "submit" by accident!

1. Cut down on the wine intake
2. Cycle some longer and different routes than my usual 3 or 4 25-50 milers
3. Get round to clearing out all the surplus cycling parts that I've been saying I'd put on ebay for at least 5 years

1. Start at the gym tomorrow, after 2 months off.
2. Put my best efforts into getting my business off the ground, been sitting on an idea for over 20 years.
3. Find a replacement stem for my trimnell forks.
4. Ride my Raleigh torus.

All the best for giving up smoking.
And a very prosperous new year to all.

Re:

1, loose a few stone
2, get my refurb done
3, stop eating junk food late at night
4, try to get more sleep
5, ride more

Good luck giving up the ciggies.

Re:

Good luck giving up the fags. I'm two years in and still dream about them sometimes.
Whenever I'm tempted, I think about having to reset the counter.

NYR

Cleanse my shed (and life) of bikes I'm not going to build (or ride).
Build new shed/workshop.
Lose a stone
Ride faster (up and down)

Get out more, riding bikes and walking/climbing
Exercise on a regular basis
Practice guitar on a regular basis
Smile more

A good way to give up an addiction is to find a substitute that is easier to get off. The cravings are the biggest hurdle so find something to take/do everytime you get them. After a big accident i became addicted to Morphine, the come down was absolutley unbearable, and i dont consider myself to be weak minded. The doctor prescribed me some other pain relief that was as strong so i could stop using Morphine. The new substance wasnt as bad to withdraw from and now im drug free.

Get out on me bike after a crappy 12 months of bugger me nothing going to plan  ..

Got two weddings in the family just 4 weeks apart so going to tighten the already overtight purse strings  ..

Good luck to all for the new year and i hope it's a great one :xmas-wink: .
