what this is...

there's a boring story behind it/cant really go into details as its work related, however, i think its not connected to my problem anyways, but still need to identify what this is to eliminate it from the equation.....

my first thought was 'electrical contact' with the notches in the end being where something is crimped around it...

the worn out patch on one side does reveal a copper looking material, which would make sense, seeing as copper is used in conductive alloys....
its touching 9mm long and 2mm diameter.
I've seen this type of thing before, but cant for the life of me figure it out....
the pictures are a little 'blue/grren' but i was using my crap phone camera and the LED torch function from a mates iPhone.
if i can get better pics i will, but hopefully the below will do...

your beady eyes would be appreciated RBers.

Re:

Is it from a bike, then mech cage pin is good call. The serations at thr base would stop it rotating,

It does look a bit like a veroboard pin but is a bit too big.

Re:

I'm pretty sure this isn't bicycle related...
I have nothing else I can think of that it's similar to.
Its small.smaller than the bit at the end of your shoelaces. That's as good a descriptor as you'll get from me on this.
