I resprayed a Marin Pine Mountain - 2 tone satin black/fluro orange. Stripped back to bare metal - all sprayed with cans from Halfords (& UPol Etch Primer). Pleased with the results and holding up well after a year of commuting.
Some DH's I did last year, and also have a set of Z1 lowers in white which came out in a similar finish. I used Plasti-Kote paint system (including metal primer), and while it looks the business, I wouldn't use it again. Typically of many spray paints, it chips very easily, so perhaps one to avoid IMO.
For my next job, I have bought etch primer and car paint from Halfords, as I have heard/read good things about durability (although proof will be in the pudding).
I have found that rattle can paint jobs don't last long without chipping. If you use a catalyzed epoxy paint it will be far more durable, but requires a spray gun and mixing the paint/hardener beforehand...
