Didn't go out yesterday, as I took it as a rest day. The weather was worse today, having rained almost all day. Trails were very muddy. Tried to avoid field edge paths, where I could. Had to go out today. So tried to stick to mostly quiet lanes. Out the back of Much Hadham, towards Standon and the A10, are plenty.

Splashed my way around about 17 miles. Clogged the frame and forks again.

In the rain an old mtb comes into its own as I caught a roadie. Fat tyres vs skinny, in the wet, I'll take the fat. We chatted briefly at a junction, while waiting to emerge. We both laughed at how the conditions were perfect, apart from the rain.

Late afternoon
About 19°c. Spitting when I left, developed into steady rain for about two thirds of the ride. Calm - no wind

Warm 17 degrees, light drizzle, hardly any breeze. Thankfully the forecast rain didn't show up. The roads were still sodden and the trails more so, so I headed up to Cheslfield then up and through to Badgers Mount and Knockholt. Nothing too strenuous but with a single gear, it made some of the 10-12% rises fun

Looking back toward the big smoke, one of the last views before you pop over the top of the North Kent downs. The bump to the centre right is Shooters Hill.

On the decent before a right hander back up the hill, some cunt had left this and presumably has tried to pin it on travelers. Nice try except it's house clearance and builders rubbish. Twats

I'm sure it's nothing to do with this firm but a few check would probably create some leads...

A 15 miler up the Derwent to Ebchester & back with a tooth out at the dentist at the 2 mile mark. Mouth still numb so had to use a straw. Bloke lost it coming down the hill past the pub. A few yards lower down & he might have taken the bikes out!

 at that last shot!

13 degrees, slight breeze, low cloud and as me Mum says, mizzle (drizzly drizzle). I decided to head over to Lullingstone since I'd skirted on the top of the Downs this week as it wasn't as wet as the last 3 days. I always get a good feeling getting past the ring-road; it feels like I've left the clutches of the big smoke.

Image

Popping down into the valley with Eynsford and Shoreham was a joy but I'd chosen the wrong direction loop with the gentler climb behind me and some tasty steep rises to come at Well Hill.

Image

On a geared bike no problem, with a single speed 40t front ring - trouble  Still, the lavender fields smelt fantastic and before I hit the wall, I popped under the Sevenoaks-Swanley line.

Image

A really nice stretch. Looking forward to getting further afield when the road bike is operational.

Today's ride was all about the bike. Just finished this slow build last week so it needed a shake-down ride.

Two days of miserable, almost constant, rain. It looked like today would be day three, but it stopped. Thank f**k.
Did what I had to do at work.

Rushed home. Carbed up. Bike out. Gone.

32 miles. Beautiful afternoon.

Along the Flitch Way to Great Dunmow, and then north. Through Great Easton, Tilty, Broxted, Elsenham, loop around the airport and back home.

Quite muddy, but nowhere near as bad as expected. Couple of bridleways and a few footpaths new to me. The fenced-off fields, of which there were three, are destined for housing developments. Ride the paths before they are gone.

16°c, light breeze. Sunny intervals.

Great ride out on the VIT T2 flying machine. Dropped down to the Tyne & Wylam & along the north side of the Tyne to Newcastle. Crossed at the Millenium Bridge & back down the other side to the Derwent & home. Had planned a riverside pint in Newcastle but forgot it was Saturday & too busy when I went through with the queuing & social distancing. Have to try again midweek.

30 miles today to test the new "nos" RX100 derailler. 10 € and works a treat.
