Any XJ owners out there........?

About 2 years ago I was offered a low mileage 3.0 v6 x-type for peanuts, by a well meaning friend with more money than sense.......it has gone on to give me two years of hassle free motoring, 31mpg and and a good feeling for the price of two routine services/tax discs/mot's and a water pump.......

The gremlin on my right shoulder has been looking at replacing it with a previous generation XJ......probably the 'R' as I just can't bring myself to own a diesel, and the newer generation of XJ's look like mondeos.......they seem great value providing you don't mind the road tax, and given my experience with my current car I think I would like it.

Does anyone want to try and put me off?........

Always liked the looks of XJs, nearly bought one in the late 90s (it would have been 2 or 3 years old at the time).

Decided I liked how they looked, and drove, but couldn't live with one. It was always an itch I never scratched, though.

Life's for living, though, if you can find a good one, and a decent enough garage / specialist to maintain it, live the dream, man.

You do realise soap operas aren't real, don't you?

Of course you do, my mistake... just wanted to check.

Re:

Niel, I'm thinking along those lines myself.......my other half would be the main user, and she only does about 5k a year, which makes it less of a concern regarding the MPG and tyre costs.......hmmmmm, I'm sorely tempted!

Steve, I have had two years of abuse from my mates over it!......I've lost count of the pictures of Arthur Daley I've been sent! ......I've had four or five bmw's in my lifetime, two of which were M3's. All great cars, really sharp to drive. Especially the final (E46) M3, which was as quick and capable as any human being needs on a public road with a bit to spare. They weren't the best from a reliability point of view though, and I got to a point where the whole image thing left me feeling a little awkward.......to be honest, I'm not fussed about power oversteer and playing around between 6 and 8000RPM anymore........I'm going grey and bald you know?

...... :?

The cockpit of any XJ x300 or earlier is lovely place to be as it is selfishly designed with the driver in mind and nobody else, maybe the passenger, a lady, your secretary, out for lunch and maybe a stop at the local woods. She eyes you coquettishly as she slides her skirt up those long thighs revealing...

Ahem!

Anyway, leather is the law, big lazy V8 also.

Given the supposed links to fictional characters, wasn't the XJR the car of choice for Hannibal Lecter?
