I could fill pages with nothing but Morrissey lyrics...

I've had my face dragged in fifteen miles of shit, and I do not, I do not, I do not like it.

So I broke into the palace with a sponge and a rusty spanner... she said I know you and you can not sing... I said that's nothing you should hear me play piano.

etc...

Oh yeah, two of my favourite Morrissey lines. He has to be the king of the one liner, but Nick Cave tells a story:

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds; Darker With The Day

And in my best shoes I started falling forward down the street
I stopped at a church and jostled through the crowd
And love followed just behind me, panting at my feet
As the steeple tore the stomach from a lonely little cloud
...
Back on the street I saw a great big smiling sun
... Amateurs, dilettantes, hacks, cowboys, clones
... With their building blocks and their tiny plastic phones
... I smell smoke, see little fires bursting on the lawns
People carry on regardless, listening to their hands

Or read The Lyre of Orpheus http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/nickcave ... pheus.html

If and when the sun shines lighting our worlds beautiful features, we smile but only for seconds, for to be caught smiling is to acknowledge life, a brave but useless show of compassion, and that is forbidden in this drab and colourless world............... The Jam (Wasteland)

Come on outside I'll sing you a lullaby or tell a tale of how goodness prevailed, we ruled the world, we killed and robbed the f-ing lot, but we don't feel bad, it was done beneath the flag of democracy, you'll believe and I do, yes I do, yes I do, yes I do

These days I find that I can't be bothered,
To argue with or well, what's the point?
Better to take your shots and drop down dead,
then they send you home in a pine overcoat

With a letter to your mum

Saying find enclosed one son - one medal and a note -
to say he won............ The Jam (Little boy soldiers)

I slipped into my jeans lookin' hard and feelin' mean
I took a spit at the moon it's all in this luney tune
Just a little insane a couple of shots I can't feel no pain
Hey where have I been and who are these scary men
Is this all real is this all necessary or it this a joke
Many know I don't regret at all
They locked me up for good pinned me against the wall
I can't find the exit I quit lookin' for doors
I stole a razor from the commissary I just couldn't take it no more
I'm swimmin' in blood like a rat on a sewer floor
No longer insane just part of this crazy dream

I Can't Remember Anything
Can't Tell If this Is True or Dream
Deep down Inside I Feel to Scream
this Terrible Silence Stops Me
Now That the War Is Through with Me
I'm Waking up I Can Not See
That There's Not Much Left of Me
Nothing Is Real but Pain Now

Hold My Breath as I Wish for Death
Oh Please God,wake Me

Just last night she said to me, while we were watching telly.....

Not profound but genius all the same.

the birds of leaving call to us
yet here we stand
endowed with the fear of flight

'you'll wear white and I'll wear out the words I love you' - Train

the whole of the song drops of jupiter, train
