It's that time of the year but given all the riding i do there aren't any horse-chestnuts anywhere on my routes. So are they out yet? We always take the kids to Coombe Park in Coventry where i teach them the ancient art of hoicking big sticks at trees to get the conkers down. We always seem to be the only family that does it, all the others look on disapprovingly

Unlike the poor chestnuts, destined to die so will never grow up.
Skewered through the soul. :(

I think the vegetarian military have missed this one completely

I start a vote for less harmful to the environment, faux conkers made from recycled plastic shopping bags.

FREE THOSE NUTS

Does anyone know if they scare off spiders or am I best to just lob big bits of stick at them too.....??

Conkers scare off spiders?

Do you have an infestation?

It's some old wives tale! Apparently there is some chemical that conkers exude that spiders hate, so if you place some around your house they won't come in.

Apparently.....

Cattle are addicted to horse chestnuts.
They will knock down fences and people to get at them.

No idea why, must be really tasty to them
