Evening all,

As my interests seem to be RB and music (apart from the normal family and work stuff) I ponder a lot.

This week I bought a 3 CD compilation set from a supermarket of punk songs. Being an ageing punk, I know that some of these compilations contain hidden gems and, luckily, this one did along with some other great tracks.

Anyways - to get back to the subject, I am not usually someone who likes cover versions but, being a old punk and a young one a long time ago, I know that some punk groups have released some fantastic cover versions - i will say that Sid Vicious' version of My Way was better than Sinatra's to annoy people but i think it is. There are plenty of punk covers.

In the box set, was a cover of the Beatles - Hard Days Night by Slaughter and the Dogs -

and i love it - the bass is amazing!!!!

So, if you have the time and the inclination, post up your favourite cover versions - if it is an odd one please supply the original artist.

Another example is the song Iris which was murdered by some boy band person - memory fails me, so all covers are not necessarily good.

Hope you are all having a good weekend,

Richard

I have just been cruising youtube and remembered this -

A Bob Marley song - Johnny Was; covered by a Norn Iron band called Still Little Fingers (SLF) - if you want to buy an album buy Hanx! (translated as 'thanks' in English from Norn Irish).

there may be too many punk covers - but I like them!!

I remember the My Way cover, I was into The Sex Pistols, Crass, Poison Girls, Dead Kennedy's and many others but there was a group that did some cover and many others with some chap that called himself Animal, what was that group? I'm getting old man :D

Was Animal the drummer in Motorhead? I did not google that - relying on poor memory!!

I love the DK's - Holiday in Cambodia is on the set i bought - brings back memories!!!

More -

I love Kate Bush - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp43OdtAAkM

A cover which is great - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KEEXyRL0qE

And another - the Hounds of Love - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VerK4zwMRQw

Covered by The Futureheads - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcMAM9B7yAA

Apologies but this thread is becoming an over-indulgence by me. I have not mentioned the incredible (and EVERY superlative) Johnny Cash - with his many covers, including Hurt (by the Nine Inch Nails) and others.

I will try and be quiet now - apologies again and please feel free to contribute.
