They said on the radio yesterday how they had used computers to predict every scenario and every eventuality, maybe they should leave the computers out and stick to common sense.

I'm very confident the computers calculated this exact scenario (heat/light projection - it's very basic optics) - I suspect the failure was in the humans assessing the data when faced with various people saying things like "but the building looks really cool", "it only gets warm over a very small area and for a short length of time", "if we change the design now it will cost £xM" etc.

Sadly common sense is nowhere near as common as it's name would suggest.
