And over £5k for a new timing chain, and they DO fail. Had one cross my bows recently had to turn recently job down as I can't afford to decline other work while I spent 30 hours fixing it, possibly more as I don't have any VW specific tools or access to their service bulletins. Mechanically quirky stuff like that is usually that cheap on the used market for a very good reason.
