my seiko monster watch...

it just died on me......aaararrrrggghhhh

the second hand stops going round after a few minutes.....
first time ive ever had an automatic go wrong ....

Orange Monster?

Maybe you could have it serviced - although often the just replace the movement. With some places it's fixed price.

7S26s are normally pretty robust - not necessarily the last word in accuracy, but normally pretty bombproof.

its going away this afternoon to be looked at...got to wear the other vintage casio divers watch instead..the woman on the phone wouldnt say how much but i figure its cheaper than getting a new one or worse still ...leaving it in the draw collecting dust..

well i got a reply from seiko today,just to open the thing and service it they will charge 100 squid not including repair or parts so its on its way back as we speak....i shall have to put the sucker on ebay as i cant afford that.grrrr :evil:

You can get a new Orange Monster for around £120.

Didn't realise, 'til I looked, how much servicing was for Seiko autos - more used to looked at the Kintetic servicing prices.

Or one of these for a bit less, similar, but uses a fairly new-ish solar movement.

I've had a couple of Citizen Eco-drive watches for about 7 years, which are also solar powered, never had any problems with them.

Are there no independent watch specialists who'd do it for less? I'd be surprised if Seiko were the only people who could fix it, despite what they might say.

i could ask around ...yarmouth isnt known for its quality shops tho ....

It being an automatic means probably more work if they actually did any true work on the movement (which rarely happens, these days).

Fixed price servicing / repair, seems to be based on, or have some basis on replacement of the movement (since it tends to be more cost effective for them to do that, than actually do any true repairing or servicing - slight exceptions for some of the Kinetic models, where they may replace some of the moving parts to do with, or the generator). And looking at prices from independent "repairers" / servicing shops, they weren't far off the hundred quid mark for the sort of movement that will be in a Monster.

In fairness, the movements are decent and robust, but relatively cheap. Unless you know a good, tame, jeweller who could actually service / repair for a reasonable price, movement replacement or watch replacement ain't going to be miles apart in cost.

i had another message this morning,,they have offered to do it for 68 spuds all in as a sign of good faith......
