It is about time I came clean and admitted I am a transsexual.

Is someone seriously trying to claim a few gays getting married is going to infringe the rights of a vast prejudiced organisation like the Church?

Why do you consider yourself a big mess?

Sylus and Ratbane are quite right in my opinion. It has increasingly been the case over the past twenty years and more in our society that many in vocal minority groups of all sorts of types have had their opinions foisted on the majority to the point where holding what was only a few years ago a majority view is now positively risky.

The great irony is of course that these are mostly groups who have made such a huge deal about tolerance... once the boot is on the other foot their true colours are revealed more clearly and suddenly tolerance is for those who agree with them; anyone holding opposing viewpoints is an ignorant, bigoted criminal and liable to prosecution as such.

I do not go around making threats of violence to homosexuals, nor do I hate them as a group or individuals; but I reserve the right to the opinion that their behaviour is a perversion (whether or not it is also found in some animal species, it IS an obvious perversion to any rational individual.)

That our society is so readily accepting of such perversions as "normal" is simply a sign that it is disintegrating. There isn't really anything new, modern or enlightened about this change; history has shown the results of this kind of societal change multiple times over thousands of years and we're going to see it ourselves over the next half-century or so.

Taking your first point, the 'minorities are vocal simply because they are the minorities, if you'd had hundreds of years of persecution (not just homosexuals) and it seemed like things could finally change wouldn't you stand up and shout ? The majority don't speak up much because they have become complacent and generally have no reason to speak up and tbh are quite happy bleating in the pub or at work but say 'ok then get out and change it' and you'll be met with blank stares and weak excuses.

The 'perversion' thing, there is compelling data to suggest that homosexuality arose as a means to curb population expansion, there are already 7bn people on the planet, how many would that be if same sex attraction didn't exist ? It is estimated at around 9.5 billion, so as an evolutionary strategy it seems to work.

A lot of the rhetoric seems to be grounded in fear of change, there are far bigger and more immediately threatening things to your everyday life to get wound up about than whether a couple of women or men get hitched.

A strange thing I've noticed is that a lot of blokes I know who have problems with homosexuals have absolutely no problem extolling the vitues of watching girl on girl action on pornhub........

Just the same could I insist a Jewish person est pork in my house. But its not a religious thing it's a prejudice thing. It does not matter what your religious views are, being prejudiced is wrong.

but would you? it seems to me prejudiced and religion go hand in hand. though lets not forget there is a whole generation of people in this country who were brought up to belive this sort of thing is wrong so much so it was illegal, now the tables have turned and we are saying to discramante against it is wrong. so who is right? this has all come from a complete lack of respect for others. it seems to me the gay comunity have no respect for the belifes of the church and are just arguing the toss for the sake of it.

Plenty gays are not interested in this debate.

Suggesting those who are have no respect for an institution that castigates them is a little obtuse.

Just because something has been illegal in the past doesn't mean it proves it to be wrong in the present, it was against the law for women to vote not so long ago, would you like to tell them, now it's legal, it's still morally wrong because it was seen as so once.

The gay community does respect religion, there is a strong religious following within the gay community. It has also been said in this thread by religious believers that the bible is up for interpretation by it's followers, so the gay community can interpret it and follow it how they see fit without infringing on others interpretation.

I think same-sex couples should have the right to marry if they want to. However, I don't think Churches should be made to do so.

Here's a thought, what would happen if parliament decided that same-sex Muslim couples wanted to get married in a Mosque? Now I don't see that being questioned like the church is.

Political Correctness gone wild and it invariably results in a clusterfu*k.

Leave people be, if they aren't hurting or imposing on anyone.

As Joe Rogan says all the time "People who object to homosexuals are secretly scared that di*ks are delicious"

Och, I don't hold to those ideas either. There are all sorts of reasons for people's thinking about things.

It would be nice if the debate was not so polarised.

Well, here we're back into the realms of unprovable, entirely unscientific conjecture. It's well known that the planet could feed / support hugely more people than we currently have, with only current technology and agriculture; even supposing "evolution" as you think existed (and let's not bother going there, as we're almost certainly not going to agree on what the term even means, never mind whether it might have a strategy)... It's still a perversion from the clearly designed norm.

Quite. But even so, the thing is, that's not actually what people _are_ bothered about, as such; rather it's clear (even from some of the comments on here) that this will not stop there; many people who hold the belief that such things are improper will find themselves, sooner or later, up for prosecution or at the very least lose their jobs. It's already happening; this is not really the thin end of the wedge, but a still thicker part. There is no tolerance being shown whatsoever; the homosexual lobby will take the slightest sign of dissent, even a perfectly reasonable facebook comment, claim they're mortally offended and throw the "bigot" who dares to disagree with them to the lions.
