The dashboard is unresponsive no heated seats, no air conditioning, no rear screen heater, the lights on the dash work, the things mentioned flash on and off on the dash, I cannot demist the screen or rear window. Also when you lock the car the indicators do not flash on and off as usual.

Any ideas

Fuses/relays first.

Thought fuses but the dash lights are flashing, what are relays?

Sorry for ignorance

Do you have a manual? It will show you where everything is, relays usually in engine bay. They are a remote switch for items needing a high current that would burn out a wee switch in your dash area.

Probably better looking for a Volvo forum, people on there would take you through all the checks and would know the usual suspects.

Once you know a model you can usually get to the heart of things quickly.

:)

Also consider the ignition switch (the actual switch portion of it), and that your battery is ok.

Good forum. I would consider checking the wiring loom under the radiator, this is a well known fault. This happened to my v40.

Well we gave up finding the fault ourselves so it went to the Volvo specialists first thing this morning, they have just told my husband that they have yet to find the fault, I hope they find it before the labour bill hit's the roof :(
