Gongs Gazeuse is a superb album, kind of hippy-jazz really; Alan Holdsworth's from another planet! ...never dug the drippy Daevid Allen stuff though.
In a similar-ish vein, I'm really enjoying the Ozrics recent 'Yumyum Tree' - some awesome noises!

Also recommend a listen to King Crimson, Egg and 'Tulls 'Thick as a Brick'.

For more jazz-rock type stuff check out the Mahavishnu Orchestra and the fantastically self-indulgent Brand X, featuring some extraordinary bass playing! -'Livestock's probably their best album.

Sit down with a bottle of wine and listen to Olias of Sunhillow by Jon Anderson.
