On several occasions I have been into Halfords looking for Bike tools etc it seems that more often or not they are out of stock of on many items including mundane items like chain whips. So in the end I usually buy elsewhere.

However my local lbs is on holiday and I needed mineral oil for my brakes and was forced to try the big H. The first store was out of stock and according to the assistant have been for some time. the Second store had one bottle left! I wanted 2 because they are only 125ml - a fact carefully concealed on their website I may add.

We are not talking 2 small town stores but their main stores in Edinburgh!

I will do next time but there was a comment on this site that it is slightly thicker and brakes don't work as well...

Thanks Chaps lesson learned.

The irony of the situation is that several months ago I cleaned out a couple of litres of sealed lhm that had been in the garage for many years following thew sale of a Xantia.

Could it be because they don't shift much stuff due to the slagging they get on cycling forums?
