Seen the adverts for it on TV today after the coverage of le Tour...

I'm kind of happy to see more cycling related shows on TV, I just hope this doesn't turn out to be a poor attempt more akin to something like "5th Gear".

Despite cycling seemingly seeing a resurgence in popularity in the last couple of years, I honestly don't think that the numbers of committed cyclists (ie the ones who might watch a show like this) has increased at the same rate.

I can see it growing to cult status - but slowly (maybe too slow to stay afloat?). Looks like mainly roadie stuff so there in one of the right disciplines i guess for numbers. With the olympics coming up though, im surprised this is the first time i have seen it 'advertised'. They should be hot on it.

Does nobody remember 'The Mountain Bike Show' on LWT with Sally Gray? Possibly the worst pile of shite imaginable, a great big band-wagon jumping, watch through your fingers cringe-fest. It even included an interview with Johnny T where she asked him about his fancy helmet - in depth.

This, and almost any sports show on a mainstream channel, run the risk of pandering to the masses rather than specialising. Top Gear only works now because it is no longer a car show but an entertainment show with cars - chances are this will end up being the same. Not that that is a problem as it will still broaden the appeal of the sport to the great unwashed.

.
I was thinking about that earlier today! had the whole series on tape and used to watch it avidly as it was the only chance to see some MTBing on the telly. And yeah, it was impossibly bad! :D
The impromptu interview with Tomac was unbelievable - about 15 seconds in when the penny dropped that the host and programme are very special indeed, JTs expression was hilarious ...cringing stuff!

Is that such a great thing, though?

It's always said as some sort of axiom - but I'm not sure I buy into it. I suppose if I was to buy that some people were truly altruistic and were thinking cycling is good for people, more people cycling is better for society - I'd understand, but I don't buy that people are necessarily altruistic, and I don't buy that it's always such a great thing to have greater participation.

More people doing it, can often mean more downsides to those already doing it - perhaps affects the opinions of the rest of society to it, perhaps drives some prices up - I guess on the plus side, it may mean there's greater supply of abandoned or unneeded stuff on the second hand market.

I just don't get why it's automatically assumed that attracting greater numbers to cycling is necessarily a good thing - at least from a comprehensive view of it.

ITV4 at 8 tomorrow. The trailer showed some MTBs.

If we all wrote in I'm sure they'd do some Retro stuff...

Featuring my friend Anna Glowinski as one of the main presenters.

She's mad as a balloon, but great fun.

hmmm.... not to bad, O'bree seems like a bit of a nutter  was good to see Gary Fisher on there too, also a bit of an eccentric perhaps?

I managed 20 minutes, before the terrible cafe setting, plus the total rubbish being spouted sent me off to do the washing up.

I'll give it another go next week, if it's no better then that's me.

Love Graham Obree though, two parts bonkers, but total enthusiasm... if slightly obsessed with his legs
