Les 24 Heures Du Mans

Dr S

Old School Grand Master
Just booked my ferry tickets, does anyone else on here go- and if not , why?? It great :p

Nice one! :D

We sail with the highwaymen of the high seas- Brittany Turpin, pompy to Caen on the overnighter. We'll be on our usual spot on Bleu Sud for the 24hrs and 3 weeks later we'll be in the legendary platinum triangle on Maison Blanche for the Le Mans Classic (which is fantastic- a must do!).

Where you staying??

Still a long time off but already planning ;)

Quite annoyed I'm not going this year. Kind of decided not to go on major footie tournament years when staged in Europe after twice camping next to Brit football hooligans. Not a pleasant experience.

But Le Mans sur is. One of my favourite things.

Next year though for sure.

Have fun chaps.

Well you need to try out the Classic then. We spent an evening sampling Fine Ports with an old French chap who had driven up from Rennes in his Type 39 Bugatti. Not a Scallion in sight (unless you consider Nick Mason to be an undesirable!)

Also the sound of a pair of Porsche 917s harrying a Ferrari 512LM onto the Mulsanne at 3am still makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck- The ghost of McQueen was deffinately hanging around under the Pines that night I tell you.

Simply magical. See you there??

Always tempted but it's one a year I think and the 24hr is too good. Do like the look of the classic though.

Goodwood so often clashes too. And I often work at the Festival and Revival.

2009 24hr for sure.

Agree it's the best. Such a surreal experience - those taht havent been, you must, it's incredible when you realise taht these machines are still howling round at 3am and still will be at 3pm.

:D

Are you in the trade too?? I had to drop a car and an engineer of at Goodwood last year before making the mad dash down to Le Sarthe on the Friday night- empty A roads, balmy evening, Hendrix and an Alfa Twink ringing in my ears- unforgettable. Wouldn't miss it for the world ;)

La Recherche du Temps

Went year before last in my sadly missed SAAB 96... twas genius! If I get a new retro motor I'll be back for sure...

Nice pic- and one of my fave retro rides too, I have a rally spec 96 in the workshop right now having a pre season freshen up. I also look after another 96 thats campaigned in the British historic Championships- it was leading the class until a shaft broke on the last round against all the 2 litre Escorts!
