Problem is loads of people going wep or wpa encryption thinking they safe and they aint. wifi can be safe as houses if configured right and no one will get into your network. All you need to do is enable ACL its like putting a bouncer on the door to allow access or not and if your name aint in the ACL you aint getting in. A lot of places dont use it as they arent aware of it or to lazy to configure it

Anyone on a wired network can be hacked or listened on in a similar way, someone on the same backbone as you will be able to using the right software pick up packets of traffic from the wire and decrypt them on you
